SWC 2009 Convention
by Cathy Hilden
The SayWhatClub convention will be held in Portland, Oregon at the Red Lion on the River. August 5-8, 2009 will be packed with exciting workshops, fun attractions, and best of all spending time meeting and talking to other SWCers. You do not have to worry about your lack of hearing, as we use all methods of communication to make sure you are included in conversations.
I was nervous when I attended my first SWC con in San Diego. I had recently received a Cochlear Implant and had only been activated for a month. Would I understand people? Would they like me? So many worried thoughts were going through my head. All for naught as it turned out. I had a wonderful time and have attended every con since. It is one gathering of people where everyone understands and makes an effort to communicate with you.
Registration for SWCers is still a bargain at $100 for Early Bird registration. For couples, the EB registration is just $175. The registration fee includes several meals, including a continental breakfast before each workshop, Saturday morning brunch and the Saturday eveningbanquet. CART will be available at all workshops, the town meeting and at the banquet. Christine Seymour will be our keynote speaker at the banquet.
The SWC Board of Directors is again offering scholarships for SWCers to attend the Portland Con. Any member who has not previously received a scholarship is welcome to submit an essay about "Why you wish to attend and what you hope to get out of the convention." Deadline for applying is May 1, 2009. See the email sent to all lists regarding the scholarships for more information or Contact Cathy at cawamn@yahoo.com
See the con website at http://www.saywhatclub.com/events/portland/ for links to registration, the hotel, and fun attractions. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
