About 4-5 years ago, I joined the SWC. Prior to that I had never known anyone who heard or rather did not hear like I did. The SWC opened my eyes to a whole new world. I learned there were others like me. I learned about being assertive in my hearing needs. I learned it was better to be upfront with people about how to talk to me. I learned what a CI could do for me. I learned so much, it would take a book to write it all down.
In that short time, I've gone from a person who let others take charge of things and one who rarely contributed to conversations, to one who has the confidence to take charge myself. A lot of it is the result of my CI and the fact that I now hear better than I've ever heard in my life. But without the SWC and the helpfulness of so many, I doubt I would have undergone the surgery. I doubt I would have been as assertive about my needs. I doubt I would have changed into the confident person I am today.
Thank you, SWC.
